  2. Currently, in GRAPH, the bottom right corner TIME period selection menu, does NOT show the selected TIME frame as a Highlighted item. You can calculate this info by subtracting dates, but having the TIME frame Highlighted in yellow, would be faster, and easier to see at a glance.

The currently viewed time period is shown on the scrollbar directly below the graph. The scrollbar shows the amount of time being displayed. For example, 3y, 5d means 3 years and 5 days are being displayed.

  3. Is there a list that shows all buy rec. initiated that day? If not that would be good to have.

You can accurately recreate your actual portfolio by entering the number of shares and the price you paid when adding the trades to the portfolio.

Just make sure the correct Commission fee is entered into the Portfolio’s settings to make each holding’s cost basis calculate correctly.

If i understand you correctly, you can accomplish this by unchecking ‘use market timing’ in the second step of the backtest wizard. doing so will give you just one set of automation rules, in which you can choose to buy long or sell short, thereby giving you a test where you’re always long or always short.

  10. How come your MTI index (combining the VVC, RT and BSR) was unchanged today, while all 3 were up?

It combines the trends of the price of the VVC, BSR & RT into one indicator.
It is not just a straight average of the three.

There are times when the MTI can move in the opposite direction of the other three which is known as a divergence.
One of the things that helped us nail the 3/9/09 market bottom was a divergence between the VVC Price and the MTI.

See the strategy section of the VV Views on 3/6/09 where we described this phenomenon.

“While looking at the All Daily view of the Market Timing Graph, note the similarity between the 07/23/02 and 10/09/02 pair of low points to the 11/20/08 and 03/06/09 low points. Also note the similarity between Bullish Price/MTI divergence of each of these pairs. If history repeats itself, we will soon have a Bear market rally which will peter out; then the…

  12. I've been running extensive backtests and have noticed that the applications slows down alot after 25 to 30 backtests in one session. Windows Task Manager shows the memory usage grow with each backtest that is run, but doesn't release that memory when it finishes.

To print instructions for the Watchdog, go to the Training tab in VectorVest 7. At the bottom is a button for the Help File as well as for a PDF version of the Help File.

You can print help instructions for Watchdog from either of these help files.

This features exists in VectorVest 7 as a Performance graph. To use Performance Graphs, go to the Graphs tab. On the Graphs toolbar, click on the button labeled Stocks and select Performance.

On the Performance graph, you can compare Stocks, Industries, and Sectors by adding them using the selector to the right of the graph.

  15. Sliders visually represent ratios between Buys, Sells, & Holds "at a Glance" quicker than numbers. The sliders were replaced with numbers between version 1.1.8.6 and 1.1.9.1, NOT an improvement in my opinion

Though the text version is the new default view for the VectorVest at a Glance Gadget, you can configure it to display the original view.

    1) Click on the wrench icon in the upper right of that gadget
    2) Choose “Chart View” from the Display As choices.
    3) Click anywhere inside the gadget (or again on the wrench) to collapse the options.

  16. Many times, when running a portfolio with stop losses, the same stock is repurchased the same day it was sold. An adjustable time delay, as in the simulator would be helpful.

To export the Stock Viewer results, right-click on the grid, select Export to .csv at the bottom of the list. And choose whether you would like to export all of the rows or just the selected rows.

It will be exported as a .csv file which is readable in Excel.
