The Portfolio and Backtester's graphs should have the option of displaying one of several indices as a performance comparison. This way, a portfolio graph would show how the value of the account has changed over time OVERLAYED with a plot of the VVC or SPX's change over the same period. Your portfolio may have risen by 6.5% over the last six months but if the SPX has risen 7.2% during the same time frame, perhaps change is necessary. There is a work around in the tabular data in your portfolio. I always buy 0.01 share of the VVC (and pay no commission on the trade) at the onset of a new portfolio. This 30 cent entry has no impact on overall portfolio values but it allows me to portfolio %G/L to the VVC's ROI and it allows me to compare my stocks' %PRC to the VVC's as well. On any given day I have that data to evaluate performance of the portfolio but I would like to see the comparison over time as well. The backtester would also benefit from this type of performance graph add-on.
